Animals in City Limits
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 4-6
ANIMALS OF THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF BIG STONE CITY
BE IT ORDAINED By the City of Big Stone City, South Dakota, that Ordinance 4-6 be amended to read as follows:
4-6-3 FOWL IN CITY:
No person shall allow any ducks, geese, hen chickens, or other domestic fowl to run at large, nor shall any person keep any rooster chickens within the limits of Big Stone City, nor shall any person keep enclosed or housed any geese, ducks, hen chickens or other domestic fowl in ay house, pen, coop, or enclosure situated within one hundred fifty (150) feet of any dwelling house or store, or any other building used or occupied as the residence of any person, or within one hundred fifty (150) feet of any church, school or other public building. Every such house, pen, coop or enclosure shall be maintained at all times in a clean and sanitary condition.

4-6-4 ANIMALS ALLOWED TO BE KEPT WITHIN MUNICIPAL BOUNDARIES:
Allowable small animals/pets include those that can be bought from a commercial pet store in the State of South Dakota; except alligator, crocodile, cayman, raccoon, skunk, fox, bear, sea mammal, poisonous snakes or any snake not native to South Dakota, prairie dogs, poisonous insects, hybrids, member of the phylum species other than domestic cat (felis domesticus), member of the canine species other than domestic dog (canis familiaris) or any other animal that would require a standard of care and control greater than that required for customary household pets. Allowable animals authorized by this ordinance can be kept within the Big Stone City municipal boundaries.

4-6-5 PROHIBITED ANIMALS WITHIN MUNICIPAL BOUNDARIES:
No large domesticated livestock or domesticated fowl of any kind including but not limited to, horses, cows, goats, swine (including pot belly pigs), sheep, etc. are allowed to be kept within in the Big Stone City limits except during special events, and then with special permission of the City Council. During special events no person shall stake any domestic animal in such a manner as to permit it to approach within one hundred (100) feet of any church, school or other public building, or residential dwelling or building used for human habitation other than that of the owner of such animal.

Except as provided herein Chapter 4-6 of the Revised Ordinances of the City of Big Stone City shall remain in full force and effect.
